The Hawkwind anthology phenomenom has baffled me for decades. What also baffles me even more is why I own so many of them that contain tracks that I already have on regular albums! I never quite understood the marketing strategy or demographic targets but statistically they sell regardless of quality, concept or whether or not the band sees any royalties from them. The band certainly is recieving royalties from this latest offering from Atomhenge who has apparently bought up the rights to most of Hawkwind's back catologue.

Alumni of the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island, David Byrne, Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth formed The Artistics in 1974. They played their first gig as Talking Heads opening for the Ramones at CBGB on June 20, 1975, and signed to Sire Records in 1977. The group released their first single, "Love Building on Fire" in February that year. In March 1977, they added Jerry Harrison (keyboards, guitar, backing vocals), formerly of Jonathan Richman's band The Modern Lovers. Their first album, Talking Heads: 77, was released soon afterwards. The album received considerable acclaim and spawned what became the group's first chart single, "Psycho Killer".

“Gerry Mulligan was certainly busy in December 1957. During a two-week period, the baritonist recorded a reunion album with trumpeter Chet Baker, documented a set of his songs with an octet that featured five top saxophonists, recorded a very obscure set with a sextet that included four strings, and cut most of an album in which his quartet teamed up with singer Annie Ross. This limited-edition three-CD set contains all of the music plus alternate takes and the last part of the Ross album, which was recorded nine months later with trumpeter Art Farmer in Baker's spot. The reunion with Baker, one of only two times when Mulligan and the trumpeter got back together (the other was a 1970s concert), has some of the old magic of the famous 1951-1952 pianoless quartet.”

“Kyrie Eleison was an Austrian progressive symphonic rock band, founded 1974 by Gerald Krampl (keyboards) together with two school friends, Karl Novotny (drums) and Felix Rausch (guitar). They blended the symphonic mastery of Genesis with the thematic aspects of Van der Graaf Generator. “Having all of these works collected together is a real treasure. It is one of the most beautiful collections I've heard. 5 cd's of all of Bach's chamber music, exquisitely performed by the outstanding soloists of Musica Antiqua Koln. Reinhard Goebel's performance of the violin works is simply perfect. As I've said before, Bach's sonatas for violin and harpsichord have been in the shadows for too long, they deserve to be heard and this performance proves it. They are a delightful partnership between violin and harpsichord. The tempos are fairly brisk but the performance is so clearly articulated that the result is energetic and very rewarding.”
